What is IPL Acne Treatment?
IPL acne treatment involves the use of intense pulsed light to improve the appearance of skin. This works because the darkly pigmented areas of the skin soak up the light and release heat which leads to the destruction of the cell. As well as combating redness and pigmentation problems, IPL acne treatment also stimulates the production of collagen by depositing heat in the dermal layers of the skin. The production of new collagen gives the skin a younger and more radiant appearance.
Is IPL right for me?
IPL is ideal for anyone with the following concerns:
• Sun damage
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Pigmentation problems
• Broken capillaries
• Dilated blood vessels
• Vascular Lesions
IPL acne treatment is most effective on individuals with a light to medium skin tone. Those with darker complexions are unlikely to achieve good results and may suffer an adverse reaction due to the amount of melanin in their skin.
What are the after-effects like?
After an IPL acne treatment you may find that your skin is redder than usual and warm to the touch. There may also be signs of subtle swelling or edema which will subside between one and three hours after the treatment. You will not need any downtime following your session and you can return to normal activities immediately.
If the purpose of the IPL facial was to target pigmentation irregularities then you may find that those areas are darker in the days following your treatment. This is because the pigment is making its way to the skin’s surface. These areas will dry out and slough off to reveal radiant skin beneath.
It is essential that you protect your skin from the sun and limit your exposure to the sun’s harmful rays in the days following your IPL acne treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
You will see an improvement in the appearance of your skin following the first treatment. However, for best results it is generally advisable to have between three and six sessions. Your therapist will analyse your skin and recommend a suitable number of treatments.
We recommend leaving around four weeks between each treatment.
